Nostrum Energy, LLC is looking for a sharp, focused candidate to join our engineering team to support hands-on development and product validation of fuel system and powertrain products. This position will work with engines, vehicles, electronics, wiring, fuel systems, fuel injectors, hydraulics, solenoids, high and low-pressure fuel system operation vehicle integration. Electrical integration and mechanical integration development of modules and devices will be part of the Tech’s responsibilities, collaborating with engineering and calibrators for new products. The Technician will be responsible for the development garage, and associated assets including a AWD chassis dynamometer and sound enclosure. The tech will also have opportunities to learn and grow into engine calibration and performance testing of gasoline passenger vehicles. Additionally, the Tech will contribute to product engineering of electrical and electronics products, as well as the above-mentioned fuel and engine products. This position reports to the Director of Calibration and is stationed at the Southeast Michigan office in Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA and will require up-to 10% travel to various domestic locations. Must hold a valid driver’s license, a good driving record, able to drive a manual transmission and a valid Passport.
Duties / Responsibilities
General Responsibilities:
Engine and vehicle instrumentation (for calibration and testing)
Vehicle fleet management and maintenance (3-5 vehicles)
Vehicle modification (powertrain) and evaluation
Wire harness design & build for development and new product samples
Vehicle & engine build and hardware installations
Fuel system reverse engineering and application engineering support
Prototype and first sample fuel system and hardware installation trial support with engineering
Fuel system and hardware installation instruction development (customer instructions) with engineering
Engineering and calibration engineering support (engines & vehicles)
Testing and track support for engineering, marketing and development
Chassis dynamometer vehicle set-up and operation (and assist with testing)
Support the scheduling & management of workflow in the garage and with assets.
Development facilities and tools specifications, purchase and maintenance
OEM vehicle benchmarking, parts definition, ordering and inventory (for development parts & maintenance) such as cylinder heads, valves, intakes, and all hardware needed for development.
Care, packaging, cataloging and storage of development parts and hardware.
Collaborate with engineering, testing and calibration team to support technical and hands-on activities as needed.
Garage Specific Responsibilities:
Maintenance, inspection, and repair of Dyno Jet chassis dynamometer
Maintenance, inspection, and repair of the Sound Enclosure and Air Handling System for the dynamometer
Garage air compressor operation, inspection and scheduling maintenance (with Ingersoll-Rand)
Garage two post & four post lift operation, inspection, general maintenance.
Safety Team leader for garage & dynamometer safety standards and guidelines
General garage & shop equipment, hand tools, general assets as needed (maintenance, management, replacement)
General garage, shop, and Dyno cleanliness & organization (establishing expectation and standards for others)
Train, educate, and supervise the Garage Assistant and/or other resources as provided.
Product Responsibilities:
Support the expansion of electronic modules such as the E85 modules and flex fuel sensors. This includes defining integration needs such as wiring and module customization in writing for the lead engineer. Participate in product Gate reviews and approvals for the same to ensure customer quality and performance.
Support electro-mechanical (wire harnesses, sensors, & actuators such as pressure sensors or TMAP sensors with associated electrical harnesses) product expansion with first article development (prototype) in vehicle. Document the first article and provide specifications for production. Participate in the Gate reviews to ensure transition to production and customer quality.
Participate, contribute, and support product development of water injection systems (vehicle integration hardware & systems) including providing documentation of specification and first article fabrication.
Support tuning activities, calibration flash and testing activities, basic product calibration& tuning guide simulation testing
Education:
Minimum requirement: Associates Degree or other Certifications
Preferred: Associates Degree in Automotive Technology or comparable
Years of Experience: 3
Qualifications:
Knowledge of vehicle operation, maintenance, service and troubleshooting (recognized certification preferred)
Experience with vehicle or engine or testing instrumentation.
Knowledge of internal combustion engines
Knowledge of hydraulics (high pressure & low pressure)
Knowledge of basic electronics (devices & actuators)
MIOSHA certified and able to lead OSHA activities for company
Availability to travel up to 10% (domestic) required.
Candidate must possess valid employment authorization documents for employment in the United States.
Candidate must possess a valid driver’s license, authorized to drive in MI, and must have a clean driving record.
